With the upcoming proposal for a new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and the recently published Vision for Agriculture and Food, the EU is at a crossroads in defining its farming future. How will these initiatives align with the transition to sustainable food systems as well as the need to remain competitive, and what role will organic farming play? This high-level panel will explore the implications for organic operators, policymakers, and other stakeholders, addressing key opportunities and challenges to ensure the next CAP and the Vision deliver in terms of competitiveness, resilience and sustainability.

With the start of the year the Commission concluded the legislative work on driving organic imports under compliance and therefore reached to an important phase of full implementation of the EU Organic Regulation. Early this year the Commission announced a simplification package targeting also organic farming and the organic regulation. In this panel we aim to explore the current evolution of the regulatory framework and what the Commission can offer for the organic sector to alleviate burden exposed by the complexity of legislation together with representatives of the sector how they engage in this improvement.

The session will give a broad perspective on the topic of generational renewal in the organic movement by bringing together representatives from different perspectives throughout the organic supply chain. How can we set the course for the empowerment organic youth?

Following the rejection of binding pesticides reduction targets by the European Parliament in November 2023, the Commission committed to present a proposal on biocontrol in 2025. How to ensure that this will increase and speed up the availability of natural substances for organic farmers? And could taxes on pesticides be another efficient manner to drive synthetic pesticides reduction?
