Organic innovating sustainable food systems -
Challenges for organic: producers, market, consumption & innovation

IFOAM Organics Europe & Ecovalia were glad to welcome you to the 17th edition of the European Organic Congress (EOC) which took place on 26-28 September in Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones de Córdoba, in Córdoba, Spain, organized in the context of Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

This year’s European Organic Congress provided an invaluable opportunity for participants to engage in meaningful discussions on the most pressing organic topics, exchange knowledge regarding the sector’s current challenges, and be inspired by exemplary case studies and pioneering narratives across various facets of the organic industry. Congress attendees had the chance to interact with key figures from European organic sectors, including farmers, traders, retailers, certifiers, associations, companies, policy-makers, researchers, and other stakeholders.

Through this year’s numerous panel discussions and breakout sessions, participants immersed themselves in discussions on pivotal topics, such as organic market trends and challenges, strategies for increasing organic consumption, and generational changes in the organic sector. Additionally, they delved into the implications of the new CAP 2023-2027 and explored innovations in organic certification, public and private procurement, sustainable breeding, and various other relevant trends within the organic movement.

Those participants who had reserved their tickets for the Post-Congress Excursion had the chance to learn more about the innovation and challenges of organic agriculture in the south of the Iberian Peninsula. The Congress dinner on 26 September offered participants the opportunity to build relations and network with key actors of the sector while experiencing Andalusian cuisine.
